It was one of those perfect Michigan summer days—just the right temperature and just the right amount of sun, a respite from the oppressive heat and humidity that had previously been afflicting us. This day called for something special, and something special was indeed in the works. I had plans to meet my old high school friend Doe (Doreen) for some much needed catching up. Doe lives in Florida now, but still spends the summers in Michigan, so we try to get together at least once a year to reminisce about the old days and fill each other in on the latest events in our lives. A special place to meet was in order. A park? A garden? An interesting library? How about all three!
We decided to meet at Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park. What could be better than 158 acres of beautiful botanical displays and a world-class collection of nearly 300 sculptures. To top it all off, we discovered that the place also has a small library, the Peter M. Wege Library. What a perfect place to begin our day.
